Debate is a discussion or structured contest about an issue or a resolution. In the context of a classroom, the topic for debate will be guided by the knowledge, skill, and value outcomes in the curriculum.

Feedback
Feedback is information provided to a student regarding performance on a task; used as a basis for improvement.
Field Trips
Field Trips are any teaching and learning experiences that require students and teachers to leave the traditional learning environment.
Flipped Classroom
Flipped Classroom is an inverted teaching approach that focuses class time to engage students through active learning rather than lecture alone. Content delivery is primarily through reading/videos outside of class time. (Cornell University)
Goal Setting
Goal Setting is the process of setting goals which allows students to choose where they want to go in school and what they want to achieve…Goal setting gives students long-term vision and short-term motivation. Group Work
Group Work involves students working collaboratively on set tasks, in or out of the classroom. May include any learning and teaching tasks or activities that require students to work in groups or any formal assessment tasks that require students to work in groups. Groups sizes may vary. Guest Speakers
Guest Speakers come into the classroom and expose students to real-world life experiences from the position of someone who has been there. Students get to see the insight and perspective of the guest speaker’s particular field.(teachhub.com)
Guided Math
Guided Math is an instructional approach that involves the teachers putting students into small groups and the students work on specific standards being taught in centers around the room.

Guided Reading is an instructional approach that involves a teacher working with a small group of students who demonstrate similar reading behaviors and can all read similar levels of texts.
Interactive Notebooks
Interactive Notebooks-a working resource that allows students to show knowledge about content information and includes manipulatives and review materials
Interdisciplinary

Journaling-writing that enhances reflection, facilitates critical thought, expresses feeling and encourages writing-focused arguments

Literature Circles
Literature Circles are small, temporary discussion groups whose members have chosen to read the same story, poem, article, or book…Each member prepares to take specific responsibilities in the upcoming discussion, and everyone comes to the group with the notes needed to help perform that job. Manipulatives
Manipulatives-Activity where students can can use their hands to move or arrange materials to demonstrate knowledge of a certain topic

Music is the incorporation of instruments and voice to develop music appreciation and sensitivity.
Number Talks
Number Talks are short discussions among a teacher and students about how to solve a particular mental math problem. To start a number talk, the teacher gives the students a short math problem to solve — but the students are not allowed to use a calculator or paper & pencil.
Performance-Based Assessment
Performance-based assessment measures students’ ability to apply the skills and knowledge learned from a unit or units of study.Tasks can range from a simple constructed response (e.g., short answer) to a complex design proposal of a sustainable neighborhood.
Presentation
Presentation is the act or the way in which something is given or shown. This includes students alone, or in groups, building, preparing, and providing content to a group in various methods of communication (visual, verbal, etc.).

Project Based Learning
Project Based Learning is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge. Projects are focused on student learning goals and include Essential Project Design Elements: Key Knowledge, Driving Question, Sustained Inquiry, Authenticity, Voice & Choice. Public Speaking
Public Speaking is the process or act of performing as speech to a live audience. This type of speech is deliberately structured with three general purposes: to inform, to persuade and to entertain.

Socratic Seminars
Socratic Seminars are formal discussions, based on a text, in which the leader asks open-ended questions. Within the context of the discussion, students listen closely to the comments of others, thinking critically for themselves, and articulate their own thoughts and their responses to the thoughts of others.
